Kipungani
Explorer
*Wildlife
Encounters - snorkel, swim with dolphins or visit the turtle
nests with the resident turtle officer.
*Support The Community - there is an
extremely close bond with the people of neighbouring Kipungani Village
whose education and health facilities have all been built with the
support of Kipungani and her guests.
*Desert Island Paradise - perched on the
edge of Kipungani Bay, where the protected mangroves of Kipungani Creek
meet the end of a deserted 12km beach on the southwestern tip of the
remote Lamu Island.
Kipungani Explorer is situated at the end of a 12km crescent beach on
the south-western tip of Lamu Island. Directly across the bay is
mainland Kenya.
The enormous brightly covered cushions in the lounge and bar area
contrast with the sun bleached driftwood furniture, shells and beach
paraphernalia that decorate the terrace together with inviting hanging
moon beds. There are no doors or windows, so air is free to circulate,
but there is electricity and a ceiling fan to give you a cool breeze
during the night.
You have the choice of swimming in the pool or in the calm sea in front
of your cottage. You can also go windsurfing, water-skiing or walking
on the beaches which stretch as far as the eye can see. Alternatively,
you can take a boat to the islands of Kinyika during the neap tides
where the scuba diving is equal to many of the marine parks, or go deep
sea sport fishing for marlin, sailfish or barracuda. For an excursion
into the past, go on a dhow safari to Lamu with its museums and 14th
century mosques.
Location
Kipungani Explorer is situated on Lamu Island on the East Coast of
Kenya. |
