The Samburu Serena Safari Lodge is situated on the fertile banks of the
Uaso Nyiro River, in Kenya's rugged, semi-arid Northern Province. The
dry ecosystem with its steep sided gullies and rounded hills is prone
to large variations in the animal population as they move in search of
water and pasture; the reserve is renowned for its rare game including
the endangered Grevy's zebra and the beisa oryx.
There are many game-viewing activities on offer including a morning
game drive followed by a bush breakfast at Crocodile Point and nature
and bird walks accompanied by the resident naturalist. You can also go
on a day trip to the neighbouring reserves of Buffalo Springs and Shaba
National Reserve or explore the surrounding scrub-desert from the back
of a camel.
The architectural style of the lodge makes use of soft local stone and
traditional Samburu building motifs. The cool interior is decorated
with a selection of age-old masks, spears and ceremonial treasures.
Facilities at this Serena lodge include a curio shop, beauty salon,
library and swimming pool surrounded by thatched umbrellas and
indigenous trees. Evening entertainment includes Samburu tribal dancing
and performances by local musicians, as well as 'Wildlife and
Wilderness' slide shows and talks.
Samburu Serena Safari Lodge is child friendly. Children have their own
menus and babysitting can be arranged.
