Places to Party in Amsterdam

So you have walked around the wonderful, spiralling city of Amsterdam for the day. Perhaps, you already have a little pot buzz… perhaps not, and you wonder – what now? It’s night time and there has to be somewhere to go and really let lose. Well, Amsterdam isn’t London or New York, but there are still a few bars to go out and keep the good times flowing. The list below will give some direction to a wayward traveler and lead them to some places for some night time revelry.

The Paradiso:  Weteringschans 6-9, just off Leidseplein
The Paradiso is a club built in a former church; the result is a massive club is fun to be bad at biblical proportions. One of the best venues in the city of Amsterdam for live music the Paradiso also hosts club nights with big name European Djs. This venue has long attracted Amsterdam’s coolest kids. All of whom have no problem mixing with foreigners and showing off their great command of the English language.

Melkweg: Lijnbaansgracht 234a, just off Leidseplein
Two clubs in one. The Melkweg has two major stages in it that often cater to different types of music. The result is an interesting juxtaposition between concert, and party goers. Individual club goers for hardcore Dutch rap and 90’s dance parties end up mixing in the clubs common area. A problem?… nah, this is Amsterdam and everyone accepts everyone else and has fun.

Nieuwe Anita: Frederik Hendrikstraat 111
Started originally as an underground squat party this club still retains its casual, fun roots. A variety of events occur week to week from different indie bands and DJs to literary readings. Odd perks always add to the experience, don’t be surprised if one night there is a tarot card reader there, or another night a girl giving haircuts.

Maloe Melo: Lijnbaansgracht 163
An underground bar tucked away inside a pub. Follow your way through this rather pedestrian front bar to a door in the back that leads to an uproarious little party. Once you open the door you’ll be greeted by a waif of pot smoke and head into a wild environment with bands and Djs catering to a young, energetic crowd. This place stays open late and sometimes gets big name bands that just “drop in
